He says it simply, but profoundly.
I’m Olivia S. Benson, and I am author of two books. One is For the Love of My Father, and it is a book to help women heal from growing up without a father, from growing up with an absent father. And the other book is Answers from Within, which is about finding answers to work-life issues.
Really, it’s about my journey to finding answers to my work-life concerns. Even though I went to school, I studied, I did a number of different things, and I still had questions. So these were, up until now in any event, the questions of my life.
So today, we’re going to do something a little bit different and interesting, because we’re going to take a look at an interview I saw on Instagram. It was posted on Motive Mastery’s account on Instagram, and it was an interview with stand-up comedian and actor Katt Williams. I’ve watched it, I think, maybe a hundred times, because every time I listen to it, it just warms my heart. It really makes me feel good, because I feel he’s saying something that we all need to hear right now.
There’s truth in what he says
Now, if you’ve seen Katt on stage, you know he clowns a lot. He clowns around a lot, and some people might even think he’s crazy. But ultimately, somehow, at the end of the day, there’s truth in what he says.
So in this particular interview, for me, what he says is everything. It’s everything I believe, it’s everything I’ve lived, it’s everything I talk about. He says it simply, but profoundly.
So take a look at this clip and come back for the summary of how this interview, what Katt says, as crazy as you might think he is, what he says, how it can help you on your life journey, despite all the difficult things that have happened to you, and may even still be happening in your life.
If you can list the fucked up things that have happened in your life, and you can put that on a list, and you’ve somehow made it past all of this, to be in a position where you can still go make some stuff happen, that’s what you have in common with every hero of every story of every autobiography of every — is that. Is how much happened to you that should have broke you, that did not break you, so that you were able to then fucking ride.
Amen. Amen.
He’s still funny because of the way that he says it
So now you’ve seen the video and he’s still funny because of the way that he says it, and the way that he’s dressed, and he’s just kind of — he’s just Katt. But what is he really saying? Here it is in a few words.
If you’ve seen my video, I did a video some time ago, and it’s called Life is Like a Box of Chocolates. Because the way that I see it, we come to the planet and we don’t know what we’re going to get. We don’t know what parents, what family, what circumstances, we don’t know. So it’s a box of chocolate.
Everybody gets a list
And then we develop a list. And the list that he’s talking about, the list of challenges, the list of trauma, the list of negative experiences — we all have a list. On my website, I have a list of the things that I’ve experienced in my life, aside from having an absent father. There’s a long list, okay? Everybody gets a list.
And he says in the video, if you can look at your list of the things that you’ve actually been through, the awful things that for some of us have happened, if you can look at that list. And then the second thing he says, if the things that happened to you didn’t break you, they didn’t break you.
That’s real brokenness
They happened, you suffered, but it didn’t kill you. Because if they had killed you, if it had killed you, that would have broken you. That’s real brokenness.
We have brokenness in the sense that we have experiences and then there’s trauma and there’s psychological damage and so on and so on. That’s a kind of brokenness. But what he’s talking about is that it didn’t kill you.
And then the third thing that he says, regardless of what happened, you’re still here and you have a chance to still do something. Isn’t that amazing? He’s in the simplest way. You got hurt, things happened, there’s a list of things that happened, but it didn’t kill you.
The hero of your own life
You’re still here and you still have a chance. And then the most amazing thing that he says is that you are just like any hero in any movie. If you can live this, if you can live through this, if you can overcome this, then you’re just like every hero in every movie.
But the interesting thing is that you’re going to be the hero of your life, of your life. So whether it is growing up without a father, fatherless girl for that matter, a fatherless boy, or anything else, if it didn’t kill you and you could still move, you have a chance to be the hero of your own life.
Proud Student of Planet Earth University
By the way, we’re doing a contest on Facebook and Instagram. And the way that the contest works, and it’s through, I think it’s April 15th — what happens is that if you like any post, and then you share it, and you tag three friends in the comments, then anybody can, and you have multiple entries, by the way, because you can do it over and over again. Someone is going to win a copy of each one of the books.
And then we have another contest, which is coming up. It will be on the website, and it is going to be for products. So, for example, we have this cup, Proud Student of Planet Earth University. God knows we’re all just trying to learn something here on the planet with insanity. I’m willing to do the work.
So that one’s not up yet, but it will be coming shortly, and you’ll be able to win a cup or some other product on the website.
I’m Olivia S. Benson. That’s my website, OliviaSBenson.com. It’s really Katt, but we’re just talking about what Katt said. He’s hilarious.
