When we look at the statistics, it becomes clear that this could not have been the intended plan—that so many children would grow up without a father and face the challenges that often follow.

It suggests that there must be something we can do to address these patterns. This brings me back to the idea of energy. Many times I’ve spoken about how we are born as pure light—the essence of the divine.

In the end, everything comes back to forgiveness.

That’s why we’ve been discussing Things Buried Alive Never Die—which can also be understood as energies buried alive that continue to live on through generations when trauma goes unaddressed and unhealed.

The transatlantic slave trade was one of the worst events in human history, but it is not the only time humans have treated each other terribly.

History also shows the suffering of Native Americans across the Americas—their displacement, the destruction of their cultures, and attempts to erase their way of life. These painful histories remind us of the importance of awareness, healing, and learning from the past.

When my mother went to university in a predominantly Black area of Washington, DC, I attended an all-Black elementary school.

That was the first time I began to notice a kind of separation. Coming from Panama, I hadn’t seen that kind of demarcation before. I remember thinking, oh, that’s interesting, but at the time I was very young—maybe around eight years old—so I didn’t fully understand what it meant.

One thing that became very important in my understanding is that everything in life is energy.

When we talk about the descendants of enslaved people, we’re talking about generations. Slavery in the United States ended in 1865, and in parts of the Caribbean it ended even earlier in the 1800s. Haiti, for example, was one of the first places where enslaved people gained independence.

Looking at history through this lens helps us understand how experiences, emotions, and energy can move through generations.
